In what was the biggest surprise of the show, Microsoft announced that they will be bringing backwards compatibility for original Xbox games to the Xbox One later this year. The only game that has been confirmed for this so far is Crimson Skies. Just as with backwards compatible Xbox 360 games on Xbox One, all original Xbox games will get performance enhancements on the newer systems. After the show, Microsoft’s Albert Penello revealed more information about this extension to backwards compatibility:
The Xbox One has had backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games for a few years now, so it’s great that they’re reaching even farther backwards to bring more fan favorite games forward for people to play and relive today.
