Today, Nintendo closed out their E3 Direct with a nice long look at Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
The game is set to be a celebration of Smash’s history, as it includes every fighter that has ever appeared in the series. Whether they only appeared once, like Kid Link and Pichu in Melee, or were a DLC character like Bayonetta or Cloud in Smash 4, everyone’s coming to play in Ultimate. Everyone has had something changed or adjusted about the way the play though. Link for example can now remotely detonate the bombs he throws, as opposed to them detonating on their own like in past games. Many past stages are returning as well, along with some new ones. There are a number of changes that have been made to the new Smash, with Nintendo saying that there could be up to thousands of changes in the game, small and large.
For those that prefer the Gamecube controller, you’re in luck, as Gamecube controllers will be supported for the game. Amiibo will also be supported again, and all Smash Amiibo that were made for Smash 4 will work with this game, as well as any Amiibo from other games a character may belong to. The biggest announcement though was the fact that Ridley will be joining the fray! After many years of fans requesting that the space alien be added to the roster, it’s finally happening. Most importantly, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be coming to the Switch on December 7, 2018.
