San Diego Comic-Con Brought The Big Movie Trailers Yesterday

By: Tyler Miller

San Diego Comic-Con is currently going on, but yesterday at the big convention, there were a couple of trailers that dropped for some BIG movies. Let’s take a look at them and briefly talk about each one!

Aquaman

DC’s underwater adventure has been highly anticipated ever since its announcement, but expectations got even higher after Jason Momoa’s great turn as Aquaman in last years Justice League. We’ve finally got our first look at his solo movie yesterday during San Diego Comic-Con and the movie looks really cool. Visually the movie is amazing so far. Atlantis looks jaw-dropping and the effects for all the underwater action is certainly impressive. I wasn’t that excited about the movie before, but after seeing the trailer, the hype for Aquaman is real.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

It’s been four years since Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla reboot came out, so excitement surrounding the king of the monsters has died down some. With this trailer for the sequel though, excitement has been rejuvenated and Godzilla’s return can’t come soon enough. Godzilla: King of the Monsters sees the titular beast squaring off against Mothra, Rodan, and King Godirah, and they’re all massive creatures if these quick looks we get at them are anything to go by. I have to say that this trailer is my favorite of the ones of the list because of how well the footage meshes with the beautiful song playing in the background. It all comes together to create a trailer that I can’t stop watching. Next summer can’t come soon enough.

SHAZAM!

Less anticipated by fans than Aquaman, but still very much anticipated is SHAZAM!. The movie is a shining beacon of fun and light-heartedness in a dark and dour DC movie universe. The cast looks like they’re having a good time with the movie, especially Zachary Levi who plays the titular superhero. He’s really channeling a kid in a superhero body, giving the movie some extra charm and heart that we aren’t really seeing in the DC movies. The movie isn’t that high on any lists for me, but it’s definitely one that I’m keeping my eye on now.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Last but not least is Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The first Fantastic Beasts movie was a good movie with a cast of characters that won the hearts of many Harry Potter fans. Not enough praise can be given to Eddie Redmayne and Dan Fogler for their roles as Newt Scamander and Jacob Kowalski. The sequel is raising the scales and making things even more serious than they were before, as Newt finds himself up against the legendary dark wizard Grindelwald. The trailer isn’t the most mind blowing thing in the world, but I can’t but be excited for more adventures in the Harry Potter universe.
