Square Enix ended their press conference tonight with the debut of Marvel’s Avengers from developer Crystal Dynamics. The team has been radio silent ever since the announcement of the game years ago, so anticipation has been building, but the game looks great.
The premise behind the story is that on A-Day, a day meant to celebrate the many triumphs of the Avengers, a devastating attack is staged that ends in tragedy. The team is blamed for it, resulting in them being outlawed and disbanded. Five years later, a new threat emerges that requires the team to come together again and put a stop to it.
The team consists of Captain America (voiced by Jeff Schine), Bruce Banner/Hulk (Troy Baker), Thor (Travis Willingham), Black Widow (Laura Bailey), and Iron Man (Nolan North). You’ll be able to play as any of the heroes in an original story. Hank Pym also made an appearance in the footage shown.
There’s an online component to the game as well. You’ll be able to play in teams of four with a roster of characters that will continue to grow, and you’ll be able to customize your different abilities as well. Any characters or regions that are added to the game will be free for all players, and there won’t be any random loot boxes or pay-to-win mechanics.
Marvel’s Avengers will be releasing on PS4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC on May 15, 2020. Playstation players will get early beta access and extra benefits that weren’t divulged during the show.
