Welcome to a brand new series that I plan to do everyone! I just got Animal Crossing: New Horizons yesterday and it’s been a lot of fun so far. When I was playing today, I got the idea to post a journal entry on here whenever I play the game for a significant amount of time. I played a little bit of the first Animal Crossing game on the gamecube, but not much, and I never played any of the games that came after. With me basically being a newbie when it comes to the series, I thought that writing about my time with the game would be a fun exercise and a cool way to keep track of my progress. So without further ado, let’s begin!
Today was my second day on my island, Destiny. I named it that after the Destiny Islands world from Kingdom Hearts. That’s my favorite game series, so it’s only right that I name my island after something from it. Yesterday I wasn’t able to do much in the game aside from set up tents for my residents Iggly and Shari, so today I set to doing even more around the island. My first order of business was cleaning the place up. There were weeds all over the place, so I pulled them all and sold most of them to make some quick and easy money. Just doing that made the place look much better!
With the island looking nice and clean, I then moved on to capturing insects to give to my island overlord Tom Nook. In addition to getting some nice DIY recipes from him (including a much needed axe!), he also told me that his museum friend Blathers would be coming tomorrow to set up shop on the island and help us gather even more creatures. I don’t know anything about Blathers, but I’m excited to have another resident on the island!

Before moving on to anything else, I paid off my first loan to Tom Nook with my Nook Miles and asked him to upgrade my tent to a full on house. Of course I’ll be in debt to him for a little while, but I’m ecstatic that I’ll be moving on up to an actual home!
Due to Blathers’ upcoming arrival, I had to find the guy a spot to call home on the island. This was honestly really tricky because of all the trees that are on the island and the fact that wherever I place him will be his permanent spot. It took some time, but I did eventually find a spot for him. The only problem was that there was a tree that would be blocking the view of it. This wasn’t going to deter me though! I googled around and found that I could cut down trees with an axe. My poor little Flimsy Axe wasn’t going to do the job, so I had to grind away at earning Nook Miles so I could purchase the DIY Tools recipe that would give me the axe that I needed.
It didn’t take too long, and it was honestly fun as well doing the little tasks needed to earn Nook Miles.

Besides, it led to me catching a bunch of insects and fish that I can give to Blathers when he arrives, so it was a win-win! With the proper axe in hand, I cut down the troublesome tree and marked the spot for Blathers to set up on when he makes it to the island tomorrow.

At this point I was done for the day. But then my friend Rachel wanted to come over to my island to give me some helpful tools that I hadn’t unlocked yet such as a shovel and vaulting pole. I’m so happy she gave me those because it opens up so many possibilities for me at such an early stage in the game! We then went over to her island and oh my gosh was it amazing! It looked so great is set up in a way that’s similar to what I want to do with my island. I also chatted with some of her residents and she gave me a few more recipes and materials to use, on top of 10,000 Bells.

And with all that, my second day came to a close! It was a productive day that was a lot of fun. Before I got the game, I was torn on whether or not I should buy it because it’s not really the type of game that I’m into. I’m not the most creative mind which is why I typically steer clear of the Sims series, and this is kind of similar to that. But Animal Crossing has so far proven itself to be a bit more of a chill and fun experience that I can ease my way into. It’s also so damn charming that I can’t resist it! I wonder just what the game has in store for me tomorrow.
