Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Journal #5

By: Tyler Miller

Days 7 & 8 on Destiny Island

Apologies for no journal entry yesterday! My back was in so much pain that I couldn’t play for too long or even write about what I played. I’m feeling better today though! I didn’t play too much today either because I’m saving a lot of what I want to do for a FaceTime play session with a friend of mine so that they can see what the game is all about, but there’s still enough between yesterday and today’s play sessions to talk about. So let’s talk!

Yesterday was a super exciting day. When I started the game up and Tom Nook gave his daily news briefing, he received a call mid-way through it about moving to the island. I’m not sure who it was in particular that called, but he did tell me that there are three people that are coming to the island! This started getting my gears turning. Is it going to be Alfonso and Celia? Or are these people going to be characters that I’ve never met before? The mystery of it all is super exciting!

Of course as Tom Nook would, he passed off the task of finding spots for their homes to be built to me. I’ve yet to start working on this, but this is what I intend to do during my FaceTime play session over the weekend.

In other exciting news, the store was officially opened yesterday! Nook’s Cranny is now open for business! I made a stop in the store to check it out and was met with Timmy and Tommy chatting with someone named Mabel. It looks like Mabel will be coming to the island sometime soon to sell clothes to us all. I’m always open to more people coming to Destiny Island, especially if they’re gonna provide a service that isn’t already available, so head on over soon Mabel!

But back to Nook’s Cranny. The twins explained how their store works and introduced the concept of tulips to me. Now I’ve heard about the tulip game all over the internet ever since New Horizons came out at the end of March. Apparently the tulip market is an intense thing, so I’m interested in seeing just what it’s all about and stepping into it myself. Aside from that, I’m looking forward to stopping into the store every day to see what new stuff is being sold and possibly even picking stuff up for future use.

Yesterday I also got a letter from Gulliver. He got picked up by his crew and sent me a gift as a thank you for my help, so he’s gone for now. I wouldn’t be surprised if he popped again based off the contents of his letter.

I think they might be sending you overboard again Gulliver

My friend Rachel also sent me some peaches, so I sent her a thank you letter with 1,000 Bells as a token of my appreciation.

The final thing that happened yesterday was me FINALLY getting Reactions! Shari was the one who introduced them to me and I’m pumped to have them at last. It’ll be great to finally be able to express myself in more ways while I play the game.

Now for today’s play session, I didn’t do too much. I ran around the island and gathered all the shells that I saw so that I could sell them and get some money, while also cleaning the island up at the same time. In the process of doing this, I came across a message-in-a-bottle that contained a DIY recipe for an acoustic guitar! This is awesome to me because I’m actually trying to teach myself how to play acoustic guitar in real life, so being able to make one in the game is like fate. I wonder if I’ll be able to actually plat it in the game?

Last but not least, I came across a new character on the island. Her name is Saharah and she sells rugs, flooring, and wallpapers. I got a wallpaper and a couple rugs from her, but nothing else. She didn’t say how often she’ll be coming to the island though, which I feel is a poor decision on her part. Let your customer know when you’ll be coming again Saharah. If you want all my money to go to you, you gotta make me anticipate your arrival so I don’t blow all my money on other stuff and can save it all for a specific day. Business 101 girl!
