Sony May Be Holding A Playstation 5 Event Next Week

By: Tyler Miller

According to a report from Bloomberg, the Playstation 5 reveal event might be happening next week.

Fans have had to wait a long time for the next-generation console to get its big reveal, but the wait could be over very soon if things go as planned. The Bloomberg report by Jason Schreier and Takashi Mochizuki says that the event will showcase games for the system and “may take place as early as next week, according to people with direct knowledge of the matter.” Sony’s current plan is for it to take place on June 3, but people in the know are warning that changing plans could cause the date to be moved.

The report goes on to state that there will be more Playstation 5 events in the following weeks and months after this first one, and that this event will not divulge every essential feature about the console.

The road to the reveal of the Playstation 5 has been a very different one from what gamers are used to. Instead of frequently dropping tidbits of information or blowing it all out at once like the competition over at Microsoft, Sony has instead chosen to remain silent and sporadically drip feed details about their next-generation console.

Some features of the console were first talked about in an April 2019 Wired article. Its official name was revealed in another Wired article from October 2019 that also went into more detail about what the console is bringing to the table. The next time we got information was in March through a video in which system architect Mark Cerny gave us a deep dive into the systems specs, and then in April when the DualSense controller was revealed. We recently got a look at footage of Unreal Engine 5 running on Playstation 5, but this upcoming event will be our first real look at games running on the system.

The Playstation 5 is planned to release Holiday 2020.
