Recapping the PS5 Reveal Event

At long last, Sony finally revealed their highly anticipated Playstation 5. Their event today showcased a number of different games that will be coming to the platform, as well as the surprise reveal of the console itself. Let’s break it all down.

Grand Theft Auto V

That’s right, Grand Theft Auto V will be coming to the PS5 in 2021. Rockstar Games revealed more details in a press release, stating the game will have a number of different technical improvements, visual upgrades, and performance enhancements. There will be a standalone version of GTA Online that will be free for all PS5 players in the first three months of the game’s launch. This new version of GTA Online will also be getting content that is exclusive to next-gen platforms. On top of that, all Playstation Plus members on PS4 will get $1,000,000 in GTA online each month until the game releases on PS5.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

You read that right. Insomniac Games is releasing Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales for the PS5. The previous game teased Miles’ step up to the role of protagonist, but this is the first confirmation of it. We’ll be able to play the game this year when it releases Holiday 2020.

Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7 made its debut and it looks great. No release info was given.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Insomniac came back for the second part of their 1-2 combo with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The duo is back and looking better than ever in an adventure that looks to be bigger than previous ones. This game really showed off the console’s SSD speed with how the characters went to different planets without a hitch. No release info was given though.

Project Athia

Square Enix announced a new game with the working title of Project Athia. The snippet of gameplay we saw was short, but the game looks pretty cool with a really vast world. We know it’ll be coming exclusively to the PS5, but that’s all.

Stray

A new game from Annapurna Interactive. Not quite sure what to make of this game, but it has an interesting world. I’m curious to learn more about it. It’ll be coming in 2021.

Returnal

Developer Housemarque returns with a brand new IP for PS5 called Returnal and it’s very dark. Playing as an astronaut that’s caught in a time loop on a planet that’s constantly changing and affecting you sounds like an interesting premise and the game looks cool as well. I definitely want to learn more about this one. We didn’t get any release info about the game.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Sackboy returns in Sackboy: A Big Adventure! It’s been a while since we got something from the LittleBigPlanet franchise, so this is more than welcome. The game looks like a cross between LittleBigPlanet and Super Mario 3D World, and I’m all aboard the train for this game. No release info was given for the game.

Destruction AllStars

Developed by Lucid Games, Destruction AllStars looks to be bringing back car combat games with heaps of personality. This trailer got me excited to learn more and get my hands on it. No release info was given.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a 3rd-person action game that looks like a Pixar movie in game form. It’s super impressive graphically and is one of my standouts from the event. Unfortunately we don’t have any release info.

Goodbye Volcano High

This one gave me strong Life is Strange vibes, except with animals instead of humans and a great art style. Sign me up for this game! It’ll be coming in 2021.

Oddworld: Soulstorm

A brand new entry in the Oddworld franchise was announced. There was no release info given for the game.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

First revealed at Bethesda’s E3 press conference last year, we got our first look at gameplay for Ghostwire: Tokyo today. Surprisingly it’s a first-person game, but it looks interesting and very ominous. The game will be coming in 2021.

Jett: The Far Shore

To be honest, I honestly have no idea what to make of Jett: The Far Shore. It seems like it could be a simulation/exploration type of game, but I’m not sure. It’ll be coming out Holiday 2020.

Godfall

The very first game to be announced for PS5 made its gameplay debut today. Godfall showed off its combat in an exciting trailer that made me more hyped for the game than I was before.

Solar Ash

Solar Ash is coming from the developers of Hyper Light Drifter, and I’m curious to see more of this game. It has a unique art style and an intriguing world, so it already has my  attention.

Hitman 3

Agent 47 returns in Hitman 3. We got a cinematic trailer along with a short gameplay trailer that showed snippets of a mission in Dubai. The game will be coming in January 2021.

Astro’s Playroom

Rejoice fans of Astrobot Rescue Mission! The little guy is getting another game that looks to be as fun as the previous one, even if it isn’t in VR. No release info was given for Astro’s Playroom.

Little Devil Inside

Another standout game from the event was Little Devil Inside. It has a cartoony art style that also has a tad bit of realism to it, giving it a very distinct look. This one is on my radar for sure. No release info was given though.

NBA 2K21

It’s basketball guys! It’s very pretty basketball and it’s coming this Fall.

Bugsnax

From the creators of Octodad comes a new game called Bugsnax. It takes place on an island where different types of real world food are also insects. Yes it sounds bananas, but I’m ready to peel this one open and eat it up (pun heavily intended). It’ll be coming out Holiday 2020.

Demon’s Souls

Finally the rumors can be put to rest. Bluepoint Games is remaking Demon’s Souls along with Sony’s Japan Studio. I’m not a Souls guy, but I realize how much of a big deal this is, so I’m happy for everyone that’s looking forward to this game. We didn’t get any release info for the game.

Deathloop

Another game from Bethesda’s 2019 E3 press conference made its return during the event. Deathloop showed off gameplay for the first time and I’m even more excited than I was before. The game looks to be blending the gameplay and ability creativity of Dishonored with the more action heavy elements of typical first-person shooters. It’ll be coming Holiday 2020 exclusively to PS5 and PC.

Resident Evil Village

Don’t let the title fool you all. This isn’t a spin-off. This is Resident Evil 8. The game has been rumored and for a long time now, and this trailer confirmed every rumor out there. Werewolves, witches, creepy villagers. It’s all here and coming in 2021. More news about the game will be coming in August.

Pragmata

The trailer for Pragmata had me thinking it was a Death Stranding sequel or something, but it’s not even close to that. This is yet another one that I have no idea what to make of, but it’s definitely out there. The game will be released in 2022 so we have a bit of a wait for it.

Horizon Forbidden West

Aloy is back! Horizon Forbidden West was announced at the end of the show and it looks stunning. This time around, we’ll be going to the western parts of the U.S. for our quest. A number of environments were shown, such as deserts, beaches, and underwater. There were also new robots shown off as well. We didn’t get any release info for the game

The Console

I wasn’t too sure we would be seeing the console, but we did! Just like the DualSense controller, it’s a radical departure from what we’ve come to expect. It’s sleek, futuristic, and unique in a way that no console has ever been before. There will be two versions of the console as well: one with a disk drive, and one without the disk drive that’s all digital. Sony also revealed new accessories: a new HD camera, a Pulse 3D wireless headset, a media remote, and a charging station for the controllers. No pricing or release info was given for any of this.

All in all, I thought the show was a great one! Sony showed just enough to get people excited for the games they’ll be playing on the console, they showed the box itself, and left out enough to make us want to know more. Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long.
