Personal Connections: A Series About Intimate Reflection

Hey there readers! It’s been some time since my last post, but I’m back with some very exciting news. I’m happy to announce that I’ll be starting a series on here called Personal Connections!

In this series, I’ll be reflecting on some of my favorite games and characters and their impact on me, as well as what they mean to me. This will be a bi-weekly series, with each post focusing on one subject. And the best thing is that you won’t have to wait long for it to start! The first piece in the series will be going live on Sunday, March 28th, two weeks from today.

So what exactly do I mean when I say I’ll be reflecting on these games/characters? As the title says, I’ll be looking back on them and talking about how I’ve connected with them on a personal level. This could be for any reason such as their themes, message, story, features, etc. It’s a way for me to think about just how much of an impact they’ve had on me throughout my life and put it into writing, while also giving you, the reader, a peak into what makes me who I am. Plus, it’ll also be a way for us to connect with each other over games and characters that we love, which is always fun.

By looking at the header image you can see a couple of the games that I’ll be doing posts for. Don’t worry though, as these aren’t the only ones that I’ll be writing pieces for. I currently have 16 pieces planned, and five of those aren’t featured in the header image. That means the series will be ongoing for the next eight months, which is a pretty long time, so I hope you all stick around and enjoy reading the posts. I would have done them weekly, but I want to give myself plenty of time between pieces to be able to properly write the next one and not be too stressed trying to crank them out in a short time frame.

What are all the pieces going to be? Well I don’t want to spoil the surprise right now! I will let you all know what the next installment of the series will be at the end of each piece though (including this intro!), that way you all have something to look forward to. There’s also potential for more to be added as time goes on as I think about more games and just how important they are to me. Like I said before, I’ll be reflecting on games and characters. Some pieces will just be about a game overall; some will just be about a character (or characters) from a game. Some games will get two pieces with one focusing on the game and the other focusing on the character(s) because of how I connect with them on different levels.

This is something that I’ve wanted to do for a while, but never knew exactly how to do it. I’ve wanted to gush about these characters and games that have meant the world to me, but for some reason I never thought to do it as part of a series. The idea for the series actually stemmed from the fact that I was initially just going to do a pair of posts for the 15th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts II, celebrating the game and looking back on what it’s done for me over the years. But after I thought about that, I then thought about wanting to do similar posts for other games. That then transformed into characters as well and now here we are.

Now although the first piece will be going live on Sunday, March 28th, every other piece in the series will go live on Mondays. Why is the first one going live on that specific Sunday? Well because that day is the 15th anniversary of the North American release for Kingdom Hearts II. Yes, that means that the very first piece will be all about Kingdom Hearts II!

As you may know already, this is one of my favorite games of all time. In fact, it was my favorite game of all time before it got knocked down to third place in the past year. When I first started this blog, I made a piece celebrating the game’s 10th anniversary. While this first installment in Personal Connections may cover some similar ground as my previous piece about the game, I intend for this one to be a little different and get a bit deeper into the game. I’m very excited to kick the series off with this game and talk all about it, and I hope that you are as well.

Well there you have it! I’m so happy to finally announce this series and I’m really looking forward to going on this reflective journey with you all over the next couple of months. I hope you all are excited by the idea of it as well and check in each time a new piece comes out. It’s going to be fun, so let’s enjoy this all together. See you in two weeks!
