Ghost of Yōtei Announced, Coming in 2025

Return of the Ghost

During today’s State of Play, Sucker Punch announced Ghost of Yōtei, the sequel to their highly acclaimed 2020 title, Ghost of Tsushima. We won’t have to wait long to play it either, as it’s coming in 2025 for PlayStation 5.

Set in 1603, Ghost of Yōtei takes place over 300 years after its predecessor, with a woman named Atsu stepping into the lead role. While we don’t know much about Atsu other than that she appears to be on the hunt, Sucker Punch did give a brief overview about what we can look forward to.

“Our story is set in the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei, a towering peak in the heart of Ezo, an area of Japan known as Hokkaido in present day. In 1603, this area was outside the rule of Japan, and filled with sprawling grasslands, snowy tundras, and unexpected dangers. It’s a far cry from the organized samurai clans who lived in Tsushima, and it’s the setting for an original story we can’t wait to tell.”

The trailer for Ghost of Yōtei might be light on story details, but it does tease other new elements. Animals were a key part of Ghost of Tsushima and it looks like that’ll continue to be the case here, with wolves and teams of horses roaming the world. We also got quick looks at new weapons for our arsenal including dual-wielding swords and guns.

It’s been a long wait for our first look at the next game from Sucker Punch, so it’s exciting to finally get the announcement of Ghost of Yōtei. The last game was one of my favorite releases from PlayStation’s first-party teams, so needless to say it’s one of my most anticipated games of 2025.
