If you were looking forward to playing Grand Theft Auto VI later this year, think again because it’s been delayed to May 26, 2026.
Rockstar Games announced the delay this morning in a brief message thanking fans for their support and reassuring them that the delay will be worth it.
“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.
“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

When GTA VI was first revealed in 2023, it was given a 2025 release window, but Rockstar has remained silent on the game’s development since that initial announcement. With it now having a specific date for next year, we can all start counting down the days until it’s released.
In the meantime, we can all rest easy about game releases for the remainder of the year. Between Marathon and Borderlands 4 in September, Ghost of Yōtei in October, and other fall releases such as The Outer Worlds 2, this year’s installment of Call of Duty, and whatever else we don’t yet know about, we have plenty of time to devote to them before Grand Theft Auto VI takes over our lives.
