Lost Soul Aside Review

  • Developer: Ultizero Games
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Reviewed On: PlayStation 5
  • Available On: PlayStation 5, PC

My mindset is always the same whenever I start playing a character action game. I expect a healthy amount of spectacle and excitement when it comes to the combat, interesting level and game design to prevent things from getting stale, and a decent story that’s compelling enough to keep me invested in the events that contextualize all the action. Lost Soul Aside, unfortunately, does not check all these boxes. It strikes gold with its extremely fun combat, but sadly, it misses the mark in all other aspects.

TheComfySpot’s Review Scale

TheComfySpot has been around since 2016, and although I’ve reviewed plenty of games over the years, I’ve never had a clear review scale for people to read to better understand what my scores mean. For the better part of the blog’s existence, I basically used IGN’s review scale but never went about creating one of my own. Once I returned to the blog in earnest in 2023, I mentioned that I was considering dropping review scores altogether, but if you’ve been keeping up with things here, that hasn’t been the case. Well, I’m here to say that review scores will be staying for the foreseeable future, and as such, I figured it’s about time I provided the review scale that I’ve operated on ever since returning.

Contraband Has Been Canceled

Microsoft has announced that Contraband has been canceled. The open-world co-op smuggling game developed by Avalanche Studios (the team behind the Just Cause franchise) was first announced in 2021, but received no updates in the years since, so this news isn’t too surprising. As the latest Xbox Game Studios cancellation in recent months though, following the layoffs and cancellations that affected Perfect Dark, Everwild, and more, my feelings on Xbox’s first-party game lineup aren’t too optimistic. Let’s talk about it.

When I first laid eyes on Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, it seemed like a game that would be right up my alley. From its interesting premise to its impressive combat, this new entry in the JRPG space from French developer Sandfall Interactive appeared to hit all the right notes for me as a fan of the genre.
