Who Is Going To Die When Negan Shows Up?

By: Tyler Miller

SPOILERS FOR THE WALKING DEAD COMIC UP TO ISSUE #100 FOLLOW! THESE EVENTS MAY HAPPEN IN THE SHOW AS WELL!

In a couple weeks The Walking Dead will be wrapping up its sixth season. As with all season finales with this show, someone (or some people) will die. Things will be different this time though because of the appearance of big bad Negan and his trusty baseball bat Lucille. There’s only one question that fans have been asking themselves. Who is he going to kill? Here are the five people that I believe will be having a face to face date with Negan and Lucille.

Morgan

It’s been great having Morgan back this season. He’s always been a character that I’ve loved, even when he was batshit crazy in the amazing season three episode “Clear.” Things have changed for Morgan though, with him being a lover of life and an aikido master. I can see him meeting the rest of his family in the afterlife though because of his philosophy to not kill anyone. Him trying to convince Negan not to kill anyone could definitely result in him taking a baseball bat to the face, because although Negan is a reasonable man, he is still a sociopath and he wants blood. Outside of that, Morgan had actually died before Negan appeared in the comics. In the comics, Morgan was bitten during the walker attack in Alexandria and succumbed to his injuries shortly after. Of course we know the show doesn’t follow the comic beat for beat, but if they want to keep doing that, taking Morgan out is something they might do. Either way, we should probably brace ourselves to say goodbye to Morgan real soon.

Carol

Carol has undergone probably the biggest change as a character over the course of the series in comparison to everyone else. She started off as a mother that was weak and afraid of her abusive husband, and transformed into a woman that could survive on her own and take out whole compounds singlehandedly. Unfortunately, she may be the one to bite the dust when Negan shows up. Carol’s character arc could come to an end by the time the season finale airs, with her killing only if necessary and refusing to do so otherwise. It would be a nice course for her to go on and be a fitting end for her arc too. Not to mention, she’s also one of the only characters that’s been on the show since season one. She’s also far outlived her comic counterpart who committed suicide way back at the prison. Her chances of being safe are pretty good though, as creator Robert Kirkman has said that he doesn’t want to kill her. Seeing her go though would definitely crush and anger everyone on the show, and the fans.

Glenn

Glenn is the one person that everyone immediately says is going to die when talking about the season finale because in the comics he’s the one who gets killed by Negan. It’s an absolutely brutal and crushing scene that’s engrained in the minds of everyone who’s read the comics. Fans want this scene to play out as it does in the comics, and seeing as how the show has been following the comics much more closely this season it could definitely happen. It’s been teased ever since season five too, so fans are expecting it to happen. This may not be happening though, as Robert Kirkman may have hinted that Glenn won’t be the victim and Steven Yeun has said the same. Plus, Glenn has already had a brush with death twice this season, so he just might make it through the season. Regardless, it’s looking very likely that Glenn will go bye bye.

Maggie (or her baby)

You’re probably thinking “Maggie might die? Yeah right! The show won’t kill a pregnant woman!” Those are very good points, but that doesn’t mean she’s exempt from being killed by Negan. Maggie’s become a more central figure to the group lately, showing off her leadership skills against Gregory and her ability to become hardened and unmerciful in the latest episode “The Same Boat.” The main reason I can see her being killed off though is because she is pregnant, and that carries a ton of shock value with it. Swapping Glenn out for Maggie would be the ultimate heartbreak for everyone, and it would be the one thing that breaks Glenn’s character entirely. In addition to that, Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and Lauren Cohan (Maggie) have both talked about how rough the finale is. The other possibility is that Negan only kills her baby, which would be even worse than just killing Maggie. I highly doubt that would happen though as that seems like a bit too much for the show.

Daryl

Last but not least is everybody’s favorite survivor Daryl. Daryl is the one person that everyone has suspected will meet Lucille, and for good reason as well. He came across the Saviors and Dwight earlier in the season, blew some more up in the midseason premiere, and sees Negan as nothing but a boogeyman. It only makes sense that Negan would want to kill Daryl. Killing Daryl though would get the biggest reaction from viewers, whether it be anger, sadness, or excitement. Due to his popularity, Daryl has long been seen as one of the safest characters on the show. This popularity could turn out to be his undoing though. Plus with the introduction of Jesus (who becomes Rick’s right hand man in the comics), Daryl really might be going bye bye. Fans of Daryl might want to get their pitchforks and torches ready because Mr. Dixon may be on his way out.
